Visa rules depend on the passport used, not where someone lives. Check each traveler before committing to nonrefundable travel. Spain generally requires passports issued within the last ten years and valid at least three months beyond the planned Schengen departure.
As checked September 7: EES is operating; ETIAS is not yet accepting applications, with launch expected in Q4 2026 and no exact date announced. Recheck before travel, rather than assuming ETIAS is required or applying now. Border processing happens at your first Schengen entry airport, which may be Madrid, Paris or Amsterdam rather than Barcelona.
